candle going out and the lights are growing dim
might have ended quickly, but you still think of him
as cobwebs flutter back and forth, the ticking of the time
creates a sudden panic, like when you first saw a mime
crackling of the speakers, the sound is going out
you really love the station, but now you're leaving town
as dust spills onto the floor when it gets pushed aside
exhilaration doesn't last when you go down the slide
crinkle paper, floating visions, air is cool and calm
animals drawn on your legs and even on your palms
a darkness in the basement, won't you turn on a light
there is no point of danger when you can make it right
silence when the dishes fall but there's still shattered glass
the stench of time is in the air, you know it doesn't pass
crawling like a baby, crawling like a ghost
everything is melting like the butter on your toast.

--the story of the goblins and other folks
goblins of time enter the picture intent on bringing the few
gallons of perpetual oil that floats in the river of dew
angry villains talk about their time on fishing boats
and alligators bring bottles of booze and pigs and sheep and goats
elephants gather around to hear the tales that are told
by goblins wandering the streets of yore claiming to carry the gold
the king said "no, we can't have you cobbling up our streets"
so the queen pulled out a flamethrower and cooked the visitors' feets
everyone was sad until the zebra came to say
"they're throwing a party in tinsel town, we should all head that way"
the king and queen were sad to see everyone go away
they realized they had no one else and that is how it would stay
the goblins and other folks, with wounded feet to be had
still felt sorry for the king and queen, you know, they just felt bad
then everyone died.

the funny things

what sadness brings
tacked to a wall

it's full of gin.

but it wasn't neat

i like some birds

cute like mice
your eyes are green
like submarines
i don't know why, but i imagine submarines as being green
i guess like army outfits or something like that
but i guess they come in all colors, like the people of the world
and i think that's great
didn't eat today
you should come say hey
or drop on by
i've got the time
just like they said
my fish is dead
i dropped my knife
i've got no life
the candle burns
my poor heart yearns
i should blow it out
i have no doubt
the world is big
i ate a pig
i do feel bad
it's pretty sad
blood on the wall
i see it all
