janet gabler gave me a kiss
my first
i passed out
but she caught me
looking at her sister emily
in september
the leaves were cold on my face
buried
suffocating in indecision
and regret
i never looked at another
until rachel
caught my eye

hippie
they shouted at me, but i wasn't
about to let them denigrate me
i'm no hippie
i'm not hip
hip is a body part
i was nothing like a hip
more of a pelvis
or a femur
i'm a dreamer
pictures tell a thousand words
and rachel was one
hippie

plaster of paris
plastered maybe
but that's for craftsmen
i dodged the draftsmen
and i'm a dancer
dancing in circles
around rachel's body
the time she screamed
we laughed
we cried
but only tears of happiness
because i was 4F

March third, 1975
she smiled
but not for me
i was gone
smashed but breathing
wasted
she met sam
rachel and sam
i never knew hurt
until then
rachel and sam hurt
pain from clenching my jaw
crying in the dark
i passed out
but you didn't catch me
